To mark the tenth anniversary of his brand Loverboy, fashion designer Charles Jeffrey unveiled his new Spring/Summer 2025 collection in London. The launch included an exhibition titled “The Lore of Loverboy,” held at London’s Somerset House until September 1st. While we’ve touched upon the exhibition before, let’s focus on the collection Jeffrey recently showcased.

Loverboy, founded by Scottish Creative Director and designer Charles Jeffrey, has grown from its humble beginnings in an East London bedroom to become a significant player on the international fashion stage. Situated in the historic Somerset House in London, Loverboy continues to push the envelope by blending the rich folklore of Scottish history with the dynamic energy of London’s queer nightlife and music scenes. The brand’s ten-year anniversary runway collection, titled “10,” marks a pivotal moment, highlighting the recurring themes that have defined Loverboy’s journey.

Central to the collection was the concept of ‘queer time,’ which posits that queerness reshapes our perceptions of gender, sexuality, and time itself. The collection delved into how societal norms and respectability are intertwined with traditional views of time, depicted through a mix of nightwear, undergarments, formalwear, and outerwear, thus challenging conventional fashion codes. Enhancing the visual experience was a soundscape created with composer Luca Manning, performed by the Somerset House Studios choir. This auditory component drew from personal queer experiences, exploring the human voice as both an instrument and texture.

Loverboy’s celebration at Somerset House paid homage to its roots while reflecting on its unique British approach to style. The collection playfully reinterpreted traditionally masculine symbols from military and gamekeeping traditions, questioning their lasting relevance. Iconic elements from Loverboy’s past, such as the ears beanie and the Warholian banana motif, were reinvented in daring new forms.
